The Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite is the second in a series of ergonomically designed keyboards from Microsoft. Its split, gently sloped design allows you to place your hands, wrists, and forearms in a natural position for greater comfort while typing. The keyboard splits the letter, number, and function keys into two banks, separated between the F5 and F6 keys, the 6 and 7 keys, the T and Y keys, the G and H keys, and the B and N keys. These two banks are then angled inward at approximately 100 degrees, raised and rounded about 1.5 inches above desktop level down the middle of the split. The result is a more comfortable fit, based on the natural resting curve of the arms, wrists, and hands when placed on your desktop. Physical aspects of the Natural Keyboard Elite include a fixed plastic wrist rest that runs the length of the unit, becoming wider and sloping steeper in the center, where most typing activity takes place. The keypad and navigation keys, however, remain parallel with the desktop edge. By default, the keyboard slopes downward, toward the back of the unit, which accentuates the middle's upward bulge. By extending the unit's two inch-long bottom-rear legs, you can counteract this natural slope, which can be useful, depending on the height and position of your chair and desktop. The Natural Keyboard Elite works best for seated typing, allowing users to take advantage of the natural curve, key angles, and wrist rest. Occupations that require typed input while standing will find little benefit from this ergonomic design.
